EMMA ALMO
BS, Biology, Haverford College, 2025
During my undergraduate years I studied biology and minored in chemistry and classical studies. As a thesis student in the Microbial Evolution and Ecology Laboratory at Haverford College, I investigated quorum sensing and competence activation in Streptococcus pneumoniae. I specifically examined the potential for cross-activation between alleles of the competence system. My undergraduate research sparked my interest in host-pathogen interactions and I joined the Littman Lab as a research technician to bridge my microbiology background with my interests in immunology and the gut microbiome. Outside of the lab, I enjoy sailing, doing the New York Times Spelling Bee, lifting weights, and taking care of my plants!
